Detectives Arrest Man Accused of Abandoning his Six-Year-Old Son in South El Monte Park

LASD Parks Bureau deputies responded to Legg Lake, located in the Whittier Narrows Regional Park, 750 South Santa Anita Avenue, South El Monte last Monday, regarding a found child.
On Thursday detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Departments (LASD) Parks Bureau arrested Juan Garcia for Child Endangerment. Suspect Garcia is a male Hispanic, 31 years of age, and a resident of Pomona.
The deputies contacted a person who found a six year old boy crying and looking for his father. They attempted to locate the father with the limited information that the young child provided. The child, who was cold and hungry, was placed in the deputy’s patrol car and fed while the Parks Bureau personnel continued to search.
A vehicle believed to be driven by suspect Garcia was located nearby with a flat tire. The suspect was nowhere to be found.
The child was placed into protective custody at 1:00 a.m. after all attempts to locate the father had been exhausted. The child’s mother was later located and took custody of her son.
Suspect Garcia was located and arrested. He was booked at San Dimas Sheriff’s Station where he is being held in lieu of $100,000.00 bail. He will appear in court on Monday, August 11, 2014.
