Passed away peacefully in his home in Monrovia, CA on Tuesday, August 20th, 2013 at the age of 86. Born in Pehuajo, Argentina to Italian parents Ricardo Cascella and Rosa Sossi, he worked as a telegraphist for the railroad and was active in political movements promoting social justice. He moved to the United States at age 37 and settled in Pasadena, CA where he met his wife Myriam Quintero and had two children while employed as an ironworker before later moving to Monrovia, CA. Sherlock was a dedicated family man and largely self taught intellectual whose hobbies included chess, photography, reading, writing, poetry, gardening, music and meaningful dialogue. A true renaissance man, he could create or repair just about anything with his bare hands, ranging from beautiful calligraphy to all aspects of construction. He displayed a lifelong commitment to helping others and encouraged everyone he met to improve themselves through education and hard work. He is remembered as an eloquent, honest, dignified, hard working, thought provoking and unique individual who left a lasting impression on everyone he crossed paths with.
Sherlock is survived by siblings Atlanta, Hupton, and Rosita, children Americo and Dana, and grandchildren Enzo and Aria. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Glaucoma Research Foundation.
