Norooz celebrated in Pasadena

Congress officially recognized Norooz in recent years and henceforth the rich cultural traditions of Iran have been brought forth to Pasadena thanks to one unique woman in Pasadena who put together another spectacular event last Thursday.
Dr. Nazee Rofagha, who spearheaded the Annual Iranian New Year Celebration in March didn’t disappoint those 300 who attended this year.
Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA) introduced the Norooz Resolution 2 years ago, stating “Norooz embodies the principle that each individual’s thinking, speaking, and conduct should always be virtuous. It promotes compassion for our fellow human beings irrespective of ethnicity or religion.
The colorful history of Iran was fêted at the celebration of Norooz at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 150 North Madison Avenue in Pasadena.
Put on each year by local chiropractor Dr. Rofagha, Norooz celebrates not only the Iranian New Year but the rich culture and diversity of Iran’s peoples as well as the Iranian spring and vernal equinox.
As people mingled before the official program, a woman dressed in traditional Iranian robes served tea as she sat in the middle of a table elaborately decorated with sterling silver tea service and plates of traditional cooks and sweets. As she served tea to visiting dignitaries such as Judge Lance Ito, Assemblyman Chris Holden and Anthony Portantino, guests grazed on a selection of Persian foods.
Traditional dancing combined with customary and traditional foods and music plus speakers who attempted to explain the importance of spring and the created a light mood for a wonderful and traditional Nowrooz.
Mayor Bill Bogaard proclaimed in the beginning of the program “Narooz is now a Pasadena Tradition.”
