San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity on Tuesday is set to celebrate a major rebuilding milestone with the groundbreaking of the organization’s 15th home for families impacted by the devastating Eaton Fire.
Fire survivors Louise and Michael and their family will join SGV Habitat, community organizations, volunteers and local officials as construction gets started on their new home.
Habitat representatives said the groundbreaking event highlights the organization’s ongoing commitment to helping Altadena families recover by providing comprehensive rebuilding support that allows eligible homeowners to rebuild without incurring new debt. With public- and private-sector support, SGV Habitat aims to restore stability for families whose homes were destroyed in the Eaton Fire.
“This is not just about rebuilding homes — it’s about restoring hope, stability, and a future,” SGV Habitat for Humanity CEO Bryan Wong said in a statement. “Each groundbreaking represents another family taking an important step toward coming home.”
Following the Eaton Fire in January 2025 that destroyed or damaged thousands of homes and caused the deaths of 19 people, SGV Habitat expanded its efforts through its Fire Relief Home Repair and Rebuild Program that helps homeowners restore safe living conditions, rebuild destroyed homes, navigate funding gaps and access streamlined rebuilding support.
The organization also provides home repairs that help families remain safely in their homes, and its accessory dwelling unit initiative creates additional housing opportunities for families and caregivers.
The groundbreaking is set for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21 at 3510 McNally Ave., Altadena.
