Southern California gas prices continue trending below $6 a gallon

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County decreased Saturday for the 10th consecutive day to $5.937, down 1.5 cents.

The average pump price has dropped 11.1 cents over the last 10 days, including 1.4 cents on Friday, according to the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The LA County average is 6.1 cents lower than a week ago, but 27.8 cents more than one month ago and $1.095 higher than one year ago. It is 55.7 cents lower than the record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.

In Orange County, the average gasoline price for 87-octane fuel decreased for the 10th time in 11 days, dropping 1.5 cents to $5.855. The OC average is 5.2 cents less than a week ago, but 23.1 cents more than at the same time last month and $1.075 higher than one year ago. Saturday’s price is 60.4 cents lower than the record $6.459 set Oct. 5, 2022.

Prices were rising slightly in line with seasonal norms prior to the Feb. 28 attack by the U.S. and Israel against Iran drove oil prices higher and significantly accelerated pump-price increases. Gasoline prices began to fall head back downward after President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire April 7, though subsequent negotiations in Pakistan so far have not resulted in a more lasting halt military action.

“Today, the least expensive gas stations in Southern California are charging less than $5.20 a gallon,” Automobile Club of Southern California spokeswoman Kandace Redd said in a statement Thursday. “If oil prices drop further and supplies in California are stable, we could see pump prices continue to decline.”

The nationwide average gas price declined for the eighth time in nine days, posting a 1.8-cent drop to $4.058. The national average is 7.7 cents lower than a week ago, but 21.6 cents higher than a month ago and 89.6 cents more than one year ago. The national average is 95.8 cents lower than the record $5.016 set on June 14, 2022.

Inland Empire

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County dropped for the ninth time in 10 days Saturday, falling 1.5 cents to $5.777.

The average price has dropped 10.6 cents over the past 10 days, including two-tenths of a cent Friday. It is 6.4 cents less than one week ago, but 24.5 cents more than one month ago and $1.058 more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 59.6 cents less than the record $6.373 set on Oct. 5, 2022.

The average price for regular gas in San Bernardino County was $5.819 Saturday, compared with $5.832 on Friday. The average was $5.873 a week ago, $5.546 one month ago and $4.679 at the same time last year.

The highest average price in San Bernardino County was $6.375 on Oct. 6, 2022.

San Diego

The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular in San Diego County dropped for the 10th straight day Saturday, dropping 1.2 cents to $5.87.

The average price has fallen 9.9 cents during the downtrend, including two-tenths of a cent Friday. The average is 5.1 cents less than one week ago, but 23.5 cents more than a month ago and $1.065 higher than one year ago. The San Diego County record is $6.435 set on Oct. 5, 2022, which is 56.5 cents more than Saturday’s average price.
