A $460,000 LA County grant to Monrovia will fund the development of a shovel-ready design package for the expansion and revitalization of Recreation Park, the city announced last week.
The project includes conceptual and schematic design, construction documents, technical studies, permitting coordination and community engagement to support, officials said. The park will eventually undergo upgrades to sports facilities, accessibility improvements and enhanced environmental features.
The grant funding is from Measure A, a county voter-approved property tax passed in 2016 to expand and improve parks, open space and their public health and environmental benefits, according to the city. Monrovia is one of 48 grant recipients along with “cities, nonprofit organizations and public agencies working to plan, build and enhance parks, trails, beaches, rivers and open spaces” countywide.
