OC libraries present chocolate history class for Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day chocolate candy. Valentine's Day chocolate candy.

Dive into the history of chocolate while celebrating Valentine’s Day at one of Orange County Public Libraries’ exclusive cooking classes, led by Maite Gomez-Rejón of ArtBites and the “Hungry for History” podcast.

Event participants will trace cacao’s journey from its ancient Mesoamerican origins to its rise as a symbol of love and romance and learn how cacao was cultivated, traded, sweetened and transformed into the chocolate we know and love in contemporary times. Participants will also learn chocolate truffle making via a hands-on activity.

Two opportunities are available to attend this culinary history class. The first session on Sunday will be held at Costa Mesa Donald Dungan Library, 1855 Park Ave., at 1 p.m. The second session is scheduled for the Los Alamitos-Rossmoor Branch Library, 12700 Montecito Road in Seal Beach, on Feb. 21 at 2 p.m.

All supplies will be provided, organizers said. Contact the individual branch library for registration details. All ages are welcome, but the event is geared toward adult audiences.
