The Redlands High School has once again claimed victory at the San Bernardino County Mock Trial competition.
This is the third year in a row that Redlands High took command of the podium, displaying an enduring prowess in this challenging educational contest.
The school’s latest victory unfolded Saturday as the Redlands High Blue Team faced off against formidable competitors from Rancho Cucamonga High School in a high-stakes championship round, according to the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools’ Office.
The competition’s theme revolved around a gripping fictional case, “The People v. Fromholz.” The scenario: Haley Fromholz, a contestant on a reality TV cooking show, stands accused of poisoning a celebrity judge with tainted mushrooms. The Redlands team took on roles as attorneys, witnesses and bailiffs, arguing their case in real courtrooms under the watchful eyes of actual judges. Their success was in no small part due to the dedicated coaching from educators and professional attorneys who guided them.
Saturday’s victory marked the 18th time Redlands High has emerged victorious in the county competition, showcasing a tradition of excellence and resilience. Their consistent performance solidifies their reputation as a powerhouse in the mock trial circuit.
“This competition provides students with valuable opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world civic engagement,” school Superintendent Ted Alejandre said in a statement. “We are incredibly proud to see our students participate in experiences like this, which help them build a stronger sense of responsibility and confidence in their role within their communities.”
Nearly 500 students took part in this year’s countywide competition that featured 24 teams with seven rounds that began in November, the Superintendent’s Office reported.
Looking ahead, the Redlands team is set to represent the county at the state competition in Oakland set for March 20-22.
Meanwhile in Riverside County, the local mock trial contest got underway Jan. 22. The final round is set for the end of February.
