Hemet Chief of Police Michael Arellano will temporarily leave his local post to attend a 10-week session at the the FBI National Academy in Virginia.
Arellano will attend the academy’s “Session #297,” which city officials described as “a highly respected leadership and professional development program for law enforcement executives from across the nation and around the world.”
The 10-week academy will take place at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, from Jan. 7 through March 20. City officials said participation in the FBI’s academy is a significant professional achievement. The bureau chooses attendees via a competitive nomination process based on leadership ability, experience and commitment to public service.
The FBI National Academy curriculum includes leadership development training, management science, behavioral science, intelligence theory, law enforcement communications and physical fitness.
According to the city, “Arellano’s selection reflects his dedication to professional excellence and the Hemet Police Department’s commitment to continuous improvement and best practices in public safety.”
During Arellano’s temporary absence, interim command assignments are:
Capt. Michael Mouat will serve as acting chief of police from Jan. 7 through Feb. 4, then from March 1 through March 20.
Capt. Glen Brock will be the acting chief from Feb. 5 through 28.
Officials said all administrative, operational and command responsibilities of the Police Department will be maintained without interruption throughout the chief’s absence.
“The City of Hemet congratulates Chief Arellano on this distinguished achievement and looks forward to the leadership insights and professional experience he will bring back to the organization upon completion of the program,” according to the city’s statement.
