Eligible landlords in Los Angeles County and displaced homeowners impacted by the 2025 wildfires and other emergency-related financial hardships can apply for financial assistance from the $23 million Emergency Rent Relief Program, officials announced Thursday.
Eligible applicants include landlords whose tenants were unable to pay rent because of emergency-related hardship or whose rental units remain vacant as a result of wildfire damage, according to the county Department of Consumer and Business Affairs.
The program also is for displaced homeowners who lost their homes in the wildfires that devastated communities in January. Many residents of Altadena, Pacific Palisades and other fire-affected areas “are now renting elsewhere while facing unpaid rent, mortgages, or other qualified expenses caused by recent emergencies,” according to the DCBA.
Grants may cover up to six months of debt with a maximum award of $15,000 per rental unit in most cases, officials said. Priority is reserved for small landlords who own four or fewer units, applicants in high- and highest-need areas as identified by the county’s Equity Explorer Tool and households with incomes at or below 80% of the area median income.
LA County’s 2025 AMI is $106,600 for a four-person household, according to the state housing department.
The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, Jan. 23 at 4:59 p.m. Officials said free multilanguage technical assistance is available by calling 877-849-0770 Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. except federal holidays. Limited weekend support is available by appointment.
