The Victorville City Library on Monday invited Southern California artists to submit designs to transform an unfinished, book-shaped bench into a unique work of public art.
Friends of the Library, a local nonprofit, is a partner in the Dream, Discover, Design Art Bench Project. The initiative aims to enhance the City Library’s environment while encouraging local creativity and connecting “the joy of reading with the power of visual art,” according to the city’s announcement.
Propose designs should feature “themes of inspiration, knowledge or discovery to create a vibrant, functional art piece” that inspires curiosity and helps provide an inviting atmosphere for library visitors, officials said.
The bench will be on display at the entrance of the new Victorville City Library currently under construction at the Green Tree Golf Course, 14144 Green Tree Blvd. near Interstate 15.
Artists must be 18 or older and reside in Southern California, officials said. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. Dec. 5. Applicants must submit a rendering of their proposed design or samples of previous work to foviclib@yahoo.com.
Detailed guidelines for proposed artwork are available on the city’s website.
