With the passing of the Oct. 31 deadline for Pasadena landlords to register their properties with the city’s rental registry, fees will start accruing after the grace period expires Friday.
All Pasadena residential rental properties must be registered each year for a fee of $238 a unit.
Landlords can complete registration online via the city’s Rental Registry Portal, which enables property owners to verify and update unit information and submit payments.
Ahead of the Halloween deadline, the city provided in-person assistance at the final walk-in registration session will be on Oct. 30 at 199 S. Los Robles Ave. Rent Stabilization Department staff fielded landlords’ questions and guided them through the registration process.
In addition to the Rental Registry Portal, payments can be made in person by check, cash, credit card or debit card at the Pasadena Municipal Services Center, 100 N. Garfield Ave., Room N106, Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-5:15 p.m.
Registry payments may also be by mail using a check. Officials said landlords should write the invoice number, parcel number and billing period on the check, detach the payment slip and include it with the payment. Payments must be made in full, partial payments are not accepted.
“Although this is an available option, we do not recommend paying by mail at this stage, as there is a possibility that your payment may arrive after the deadline and incur late fees,” city officials said in a statement.
Rental registrations submitted during the seven-day grace period that ends will not incur penalties. Beginning Saturday, Nov. 8, fees for registrations eight to 45 days late are 15% totaling $35.70; 46-90 days late and the fee doubles totaling $71.40; 91 or more days late and the fee rises to 50%, or $119.
On Monday officials said 1,441 rental properties have not yet registered of the city’s 7,266 total. An estimated 6,009 landlords own rental properties in Pasadena, and 1,002 have not yet registered.
