Guitarist-vocalist Michael Campagna and his eclectic band begin a monthly residency at Visionarium, 1020 Mission St. in South Pasadena, on Friday (and every consecutive Friday for four weeks thereafter).
“Visionarium and hospitality are synonymous. Italian culture bought to you, with a great wine list and excellent cuisine, they are truly patrons of the arts,” says Campagna.
The Pasadena-based musician has long been a fixture in the Los Angeles blues-jazz scene, with several critically-lauded albums to his credit. Originally from Buffalo, New York, he was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 2014. Campagna has penned songs for such notable music artists as Chaka Khan, Jennifer Holiday, and Maxine Nightingale, among others. Campagna’s uptempo track “U By U By U” was featured in the John Grey-directed 2010 film, White Irish Drinkers. He is a regular performer at the South Pasadena-based Eclectic Music Festival and is creative director of the South Pasadena Conservatory. He began his performing career playing bass for the blues artist Freddie King when he was in 18 in Buffalo. Presently, Camapgna is in the studio recording new music with Gary Mallaber, onetime drummer with, among others, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, and the Steve Miller Band.
In addition to Campagna on guitar and lead vocals, his group includes Amy Meenan on keyboards, Henry Osbourne on bass, and John Hause on drums. They’ll perform all originals during their two-hour set.
Shows will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $17.85 (of which $15 is fully refundable on food and drinks). All ages are welcome. For more information, call (626) 460-6055 or visit visionarium.shop/index.php/en-us/.
