San Bernardino’s Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department will be holding a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the city’s first futsal court at Lytle Creek Park on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Lytle Creek Park is located at 380 S. K St. in San Bernardino.
Futsal is a fast-paced indoor version of soccer played by two teams of five players on a smaller court, using a low-bounce ball. Played both outdoors and indoors, FIFA (the world governing body for soccer and futsal) recognizes futsal as the fastest growing indoor sport in the world, with over 30 million players worldwide.
The San Bernardino City Council approved a $633,000 contract with KYA Services converting an unused parking lot into the futsal court in September of 2024 using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and City Cultural Development Construction funds.
The former lot now features a field with synthetic turf and fencing.
