The City of Baldwin Park has launched the Baldwin Park Emergency Relief Program, a new initiative aimed at supporting local families facing financial hardship due to recent federal immigration enforcement actions.
The city has partnered with Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis and local businesses to provide direct assistance to vulnerable Baldwin Park households during this time of need.
“Baldwin Park has always stood as a community united in compassion, dignity and resilience,” said Baldwin Park Mayor Alejandra Avila. “In light of these recent events, we are stepping up to protect and support our families. We are proud to partner with our community leaders to provide immediate relief and stand in solidarity with those affected. Together, we remain united. Together, we remain resilient.”
The Emergency Relief Program began accepting applications from Baldwin Park residents on Thursday. To launch the program, the Baldwin Park City Council approved $216,000 in seed funding, with an additional $50,000 allocated by Chair Pro Tem Hilda L. Solis in a show of regional support. By combining city and county resources, the program aims to deliver timely, targeted relief to households in urgent need.
“Now more than ever, we must stand together to protect the well-being and dignity of our communities,” said Chair Pro Tem Solis. “That is why I’ve passed 11 actions at the Board of Supervisors to ensure our families have the resources and protection needed to navigate this difficult time – and that includes direct assistance. With partners like the City of Baldwin Park, these collaborative initiatives reflect the values of equity, compassion and action while helping families stay together, stay housed, and stay healthy.”
The program will provide assistance with essential needs, including non-perishable groceries, toiletries and flexible financial support to help cover urgent expenses, such as utility bills and one-time rental assistance. All aid is delivered by city staff members.
Food assistance requires participants to:
- Provide proof of residency in Baldwin Park
- Meet household income limits
- Provide consular identification
For financial assistance with utility bills, note that the program is only available for bills registered to the person requesting help, and assistance can only be provided for one month of the billing cycle. To apply, participants must provide a copy of their most recent utility bill.
To apply for rental assistance, the property management company or landlord must:
- Complete a W-9
- Show proof of ownership
- Provide an arrears notice or ledger indicating the amount owed
- Sign the property manager/landlord Harmless Agreement
- Provide a three-day notice to pay or quit
- Provide proof of the rental/lease agreement
The program is dependent on the services needed, and additional information or documentation may be required to receive help.
