The City of San Bernardino will be joining the local skateboarding community to celebrate the re-opening of the Eastside Skate Park at Speicher Family Memorial Park on Thursday, June 12 at 4:30 pm.
Originally opened in 2009, the park was closed in 2022 after a series of fires left ramps and other equipment unsafe for skating.
The park was re-designed with input from local skaters and has been expanded and rebuilt in partnership with New Line Skateparks. The new skate park includes elements for both experienced and beginning skateboarders.
As a part of the ribbon cutting, there will be a skateboarding demonstration by representatives from two local skate shops.
The $1.79 million replacement of the Eastside Skate Park is one of several projects taking place at the 28-acre Speicher Family Memorial Park. Earlier this year, the city broke ground on a project in partnership with the County of San Bernardino and the Yuhaaviatam Tribe of San Manuel Nation.
The $5.8 million project, to be completed later this year, will include the refurbishment of the park’s five baseball and softball fields, including the installation of new lighting, bleachers, electronic scoreboard, a new snack bar, ADA compliant bathrooms, and other park amenities.
The Speicher Family Memorial Park is located at 1535 N. Arden Ave. near Pacific Street in the northeast part of the city.
