To celebrate Cheeseburger Week which runs through Saturday, Pasadena eateries are offering discounts and specially crafted burgers.
New York Chicken & Gyro is offering a free cheeseburger deal — anyone who follows the restaurant on Instagram at @NYC_GYRO, then shows the cashier the follow will receive a free cheeseburger. The offer is only for the Pasadena location at 961 E. Green St.
Especially for Cheeseburger Week, El Portal, located at 695 E. Green St., is offering the Zacatecas burger.
El Portal co-owner P. Armando Ramirez recalled the idea for the burger came to him when he and his wife visited her hometown.
“We went one night with the family and tried a cheeseburger from a well-known food vendor that had ground pork, ground beef, chorizo and dried California chili,” Ramirez said. “Tasting this delicious blend of meats, the spiciness of the chorizo and the smokiness of the dried chili made me want more. So, when the Idea of Cheeseburger Week came about, I decided to make my own version … and call it the Zacatecas burger.”
Akin to the burger he had in Mexico, Ramirez’s creation features traditional ground pork, ground beef, chorizo and dried chiles. He decided to add American cheese, a slice of ham, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayonnaise that’s held together by a brioche bun.
The Zacatecas burger is also available at Yahaira’s Café, 698 E. Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena.
