A 23-year-old man is accused of fatally stabbing three of his family members in their Baldwin Park home the day after Christmas, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced Tuesday.
Kyle Chester De Los Reyes’ arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 15 in Pomona. He is charged with three counts of murder in connection with the stabbing deaths that occurred Thursday, according to the DA’s office.
The charges include a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, along with allegations that a deadly weapon was used to commit the killings.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner Department identified the victims as as Rona Nate, 44, Paul Manangan, 16, and Mia Narvaez, 8.
Aside from identifying them as family members, authorities have not specified the relationships between De Los Reyes and the victims.
“My office will work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served in this devastating act of violence, which has shaken our community and left a family forever changed,” Hochman said in a statement. “Violent crime not only robs us of innocent lives but also threatens the very fabric of our community. Let this be a clear message: those who commit heinous acts of violence will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Baldwin Park Police Department officers found the victims after responding at 6:48 p.m. Thursday to the 4700 block of Bogart Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is assisting with the investigation.
The victims each suffered multiple stab wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s department.
A neighbor told KNX that a cousin with whom he lives heard noises coming from the house around 6:30 p.m.
“She heard a loud noise, someone yelling for help [and] to call 911,” the neighbor said. “And then she heard a guy scream, like, just to the top of the lungs and after that she all she heard was just a loud crash. Like [a] boom, like someone slammed the door really, really hard.”
Sheriff’s Lt. Michael Modica told reporters that when officers arrived, the suspect was detained after he attempted to drive away from the scene.
The suspect was determined to be related to the victims and a resident of the home, Modica said. De Los Reyes was arrested and booked at the Baldwin Park Police Department on suspicion of murder.
He is detained without bail, jail records show.
