The national prize-winning Pasadena Chorale will perform three festive holiday-themed concerts in December, including two free shows and one benefit event, the organization announced.
The holiday celebration starts 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at First United Methodist Church in Pasadena with “The Light of Hope Returning,” a spirited American oratorio by composer Shawn Kirchner. The concert will feature 90 singers accompanied by Kirchner at the piano. The oratorio combines bluegrass, gospel and contemporary classical styles “for a heartfelt, uniquely American holiday experience,” according to event organizers.
The Pasadena Chorale intends to release a recording of this version early next year.
The performance is free, but reservations are required.
On Dec. 14 and 15, the chorale will present “Twilight of the Year,” an intimate concert that features contemplative, feel-good music of the holiday season. Held at Altadena Community Church, the concert will feature 16 singers amid “the stunning acoustics of this beautiful church,” organizers said.
Seating is limited and early reservations were encouraged. The Saturday Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. will be free with required reservations.
The Sunday matinee Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. will be a benefit concert with tickets costing $25. Proceeds from the concert will support the chorale’s mission of offering free, high-quality concerts and educational programs to the local community.
