Long Beach to host Halloween carnival on Thursday
The Neighborhood Halloween Carnival is set for Thursday in Long Beach.
The free, family-friendly event is part of the city’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program and takes place 4 to 7 p.m. at Silverado Park,1545 W. 31st St.
The Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine and the Office of Climate Action and Sustainability are co-hosting the event.
“The Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program is about bringing people together and creating more opportunities for community connection,” Mayor Rex Richardson said in a statement. “The Neighborhood Halloween Carnival will foster that connection in the spirit of Halloween and empower our residents — especially our local youth — to get involved and make a difference.”
The event will feature carnival games and play stations, including haunted hoop games, ring tosses, balloon animals and other family games, organizers said. At the carnival’s arts and craft stations, attendees have the opportunity to create straw bats, Halloween masks, coloring pages and glitter tattoos. The carnival also features a cake walk competition, cookie decorating, plus candy and goody contests.
“To foster community connection, attendees will receive a passport card that encourages play and mingling with their neighbors,” according to the city statement. “Residents are invited to dress in their best Halloween costume and participate in the glow party costume contest.”
Long Beach’s Halloween carnival is a Neighbor-To-Neighbor event connected with the state’s California Volunteers network. Information on how to participate in the Neighbor-To-Neighbor program and its events calendar are available on the program website.
