Pasadena Chorale benefit to feature rare piano four hands performance
“Twenty Fingers,” a benefit concert featuring celebrated pianists Jeffrey Kahane and Tali Tadmor is set for later this month in San Marino, the Pasadena Chorale announced Wednesday.
In this rare collaborative performance on one keyboard, Kahane and Tadmor will perform a program of piano music for four hands that showcases music by Samuel Barber, Astor Piazzolla, Francis Poulenc and Franz Schubert. Organizers expect this simultaneously intimate and dynamic concert to be a memorable evening of musical artistry that brings together two talented and versatile pianists.
The concert is a key fundraiser for the chorale, which noted its mission to offer free, “high-quality, expansive, and inclusive” entertainment to the public.
“Twenty Fingers is a unique opportunity to experience the magic of piano four hands played by two of the finest musicians,” Jeffrey Bernstein, founding artistic and executive director of the Pasadena Chorale, said in a statement. “We are beyond excited to bring this extraordinary concert to our community.”
The Los Angeles Times praised Kahane’s “imagination, devotion, and supreme musicianship” exhibited throughout his career. Kahane is a pianist, conductor and scholar who has performed with leading orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, where he was music director for 20 years. Highlights of Kahane’s extensive career include performances with Yo-Yo Ma and Joshua Bell, as well as conducting stints with the San Antonio Philharmonic and the Sarasota Music Festival.
“His vast experience and deep connection to the music ensure that every performance is an inspiring experience,” according to a statement from the chorale.
Tadmor is a Los Angeles-based pianist, vocal coach, conductor and music teacher. Tadmor has performed at renowned venues that include Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA, and she has worked with renowned musicians such as Metropolitan Opera soprano Angela Meade and LA Philharmonic cellist Daniel Rothmuller.
“Tadmor’s perceptiveness and artistry make her a sought-after collaborator in both solo and ensemble settings,” concert organizers said.
The chorale was founded by Jeffrey Bernstein in 2009 and “is an auditioned community chorus” that presents affordable high-quality choral concerts and educational programs to the Pasadena community, the statement said.
The chorale receives support from the LA County Arts Commission, the city of Pasadena, the Pasadena Community Foundation and Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts.
“Twenty Fingers” is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at San Marino Community Church, 1750 Virginia Road. Ticket prices start at $50.
