Duarte provides update on Royal Oaks Park projects

Upgrades are imminent at Royal Oaks Park, and the tennis courts will be closed until November, the Duarte Parks and Recreation Department announced.

Construction will soon be underway on new pickleball courts following City Council approval of the Royal Oaks Pickleball Court Conversion and Tennis Court Resurfacing Project earlier this year.

Construction of the new courts was set to start Tuesday, prompting the closure of the existing tennis courts at the park beginning Monday, Sept. 30. Officials said the project will take about four weeks to finish for a “grand reopening of the courts” in the first week of November.

The revamp calls for the park to have two permanent pickleball courts with lines and nets, and one tennis court with painted pickleball lines that will be for both sports.

The new gazebo for the Royal Oaks Park is ready for installation, and the on-site work was set to commence Monday. The project entails removing the gazebo’s metal shade structure and concrete pad, forming and pouring concrete for a new foundation and assembling, then installing an Americana 15-by-15-foot Navajo-style shelter.

Parks officials expected the new gazebo to be ready for use and rental starting the first week of October.

Updates may be posted on accessduarte.com and the city’s social media platforms as information becomes available, officials said. Questions about the projects should go to the Duarte Parks and Recreation Department, 626-357-7931.
