Artist Natalie Gonzalez’s installation “Ventana Huichola” will be on display at the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station in Glendale starting Oct. 7 until Nov. 15.
“Ventana Huichola,” or “Huichol Window” was tailored for the vintage gas station site at 1020 E. Palmer Ave. and consists of three pieces, each made of 15 “God’s Eyes,” city officials said. Each God’s Eye is attached to a plastic net with a cord.
“Gonzalez’s goal is for the audience to engage in this magical vibration of colors and shapes,” according to a city statement.
Gonzalez is a visual artist based in San Diego who mainly works with acrylic and mixed media, Glendale officials said. Her art incorporates simple shapes, lines and organic images.
“Gonzalez enjoys the creative process; it is a response to all the things she experiences in her daily life and past,” the statement said. “By using elements of her traditions, roots and Neo-Mexicanism, she attempts to construct her own ideas, analyses, and metaphors of what being binational means to her.”
The temporary art installation is sponsored by the Glendale Arts and Culture Commission through funding from Glendale’s Urban Art Program and support from city departments and the Adams Hill Neighborhood Association.
