Free virtual Green Cleaning and Green Gardening class Wednesday evening
Learn how to create homemade cleaning and garden products out of items you already have in your pantry. On Wednesday, the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources will host a free virtual Green Cleaning and Green Gardening class at 6 pm that can be accessed on any computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Green cleaning teaches residents the benefits of using sustainable, environmentally sound cleaning practices. Presenters explain how to simplify your cleaning products, save money, and make your home a safer environment. The class demonstrates how easy it is to make cleaning products from ingredients most people already have in their home, such as vinegar, baking soda and rubbing alcohol. Participants can download a booklet that contains basic recipes to make their own cleaning products at home. The result is simple cleaning products that leave less chemical residue behind on surfaces where food is prepared, children crawl, or pets walk.
Green gardening takes that concept and applies it to the outdoors. The class demonstrates how to create effective homemade products to tackle everything from pest prevention to weed killers without the use of harmful toxic chemicals. The result will save your garden from plant-eating pests and save you money by creating products from everyday items like dish soap and cayenne pepper.
The virtual class is free and will begin at 6 p.m. and end by 7 p.m. No need to register beforehand.
The Department of Waste Resources offers a variety of free environmental education classes related to waste reduction and sustainability. Class instructors provide attendees with professional learning and instructional materials that demonstrate environmental diversion themes such as composting, recycling, and green cleaning.
