Household hazardous waste, e-waste event Saturday in Arcadia
Residents can more safely dispose of hazardous household chemicals and unwanted electronic equipment Saturday in Arcadia, the Los Angeles County Sanitation District announced.
The free Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste Recycling Event, co-hosted by the Los Angeles County Public Works Department, will take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Santa Anita Park Gate 6, 285 W. Huntington Drive.
Officials said to bring:
- motor oil, antifreeze;
- paint, paint thinner;
- turpentine, cleaners with acids or lye;
- pesticides and herbicides;
- household and car batteries;
- old computers and television sets;
- expired pharmaceuticals and mercury thermometers;
- sharps or used needles; and
- fluorescent light bulbs
These items are unacceptable:
- Explosives, ammunition or radioactive materials;
- trash or old tires; and
- white goods such as washers, stoves, refrigerators or air conditioners
“Waste from businesses will not be accepted,” according to the county.
Each attending vehicle’s total load of disposable items can’t exceed 15 gallons or 125 pounds, officials said. Waste items should be in a sturdy box, preferably in their original labeled containers.
“Be prepared to leave your containers (and) do not mix products together,” officials advised.
