Pasadena residents can get rid of unwanted electronics at a free e-waste event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, the city announced.

The event is scheduled to take place in Rose Bowl Stadium Parking Lot I at 360 N. Arroyo Blvd., near Brookside Park.

“To maintain safety, only cars may enter — no walk-ups,” according to a city statement. “The duration of the event is subject to truck capacity.”

Items considered e-waste are computers, keyboards, printers, monitors, laptops, docking stations, scanners, shredders, fax machines, computer mice, telephones, televisions, flat screens, VCRs, DVD players, PDAs, cassette players, tape drives and stereos, officials said. Household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs and LED light bulbs are also acceptable — “these items should never be disposed of in your trash or recycling containers.”

In an effort to curb identity theft, the Pasadena Public Works Department is providing free paper shredding at the e-waste event.

The limit is three legal-size boxes of paper for shredding. Identity-sensitive documents including receipts, checks, pre-approved credit applications, credit card statements, old tax returns, pre-printed envelopes, return-address labels and business cards are acceptable for shredding at the event.

Officials asked residents to remove documents from ring binders and metal binder clips.

This recycling event is open to Pasadena residents and sponsored by Public Works. For more information, call 626-744-7311 or email recycle@cityofpasadena.net.
