West Covina to host 4th of July Firework Spectacular

The city of West Covina has invited the public to celebrate the nation’s independence at its 4th of July Firework Spectacular on Thursday, July 4, at the West Covina Sportsplex, 2100 S. Azusa Ave.

The event takes place from 5 to 9:30 p.m., and gates open at 4. This free event will have live entertainment, a DJ, food, a beer garden hosted by the Cove Cocktail Bar, and activities for all ages.

Activities include a rock-climbing wall, picnic games, jumpers, Bubble Mania, free face painting, free kiddie train rides and free balloon twisting.

The Fourth of July event lineup is:

  • 4 p.m. gates open
  • 5 p.m. opening ceremony
  • 5:30 p.m. DJ Phil Perez
  • 7 p.m. RemiX
  • 9 p.m. firework finale

A variety of food vendors were scheduled to be at the event:

  • Snow Pebbles Shaved Ice                     
  • Benny’s BBQ LLC
  • Los Gummies

  • Punky’s Ice Cream
  • Bitiebitz                                              
  • Bach Yaki
  • Patty Meets Bun                                  
  • The Cove Cocktail Bar for guests 21 years and over.

General parking is at the Sportsplex “on an extremely limited basis,” said city officials, who “strongly recommended” using the free shuttle service offered every 20 to 30 minutes between 3 and 8 p.m. Parking locations for shuttles services are:

  • The parking lot at at 1540 E. Amar Road on the southeast corner of Amar and Azusa Avenue;
  • Shadow Oak Park, 2121 Shadow Oak Drive; and
  • Cortez Park & Senior Center, 2501 E. Cortez St.

Shuttle services will resume immediately after the firework finale, event organizers said. Return trips may take up to an hour.

Handicap parking is first come, first served at the Sportsplex, according to the city. Handicap placards or license plates are required to access the handicap parking area.

“West Covina’s 4th of July Firework Spectacular provides our residents and neighbors the opportunity to celebrate the independence of our nation and the American ideals of freedom, justice, and unity,“ Mayor Brian Calderón Tabatabai said in a statement.
