Monterey Park will celebrate Independence Day on Saturday from 4 to 9:30 p.m. at Barnes Park, located at 350 S. McPherrin Ave.
The event will feature live entertainment at the Barnes Park Amphitheater. The annual celebration concludes with a free fireworks display at 9 p.m.
The fireworks’ “fallout zone” includes surrounding streets — McPherrin, Harding and Ramona avenues — which will be closed from 4 to 11 p.m.
City officials reminded area residents that fireworks are not allowed at any time in any park, and only “safe and sane” fireworks are legal in Monterey Park and only on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Officials asked the public to report Illegal fireworks use and sales to the Monterey Park Police Department’s non-emergency line at 626-573-1311.
