A new Route 66 exhibit is opening in Duarte, and locals were invited to attend a dedication ceremony later this month, the city announced Monday.

The Duarte Historical Museum, 777 Encanto Parkway, will host a dedication event for its new Route 66 Room in honor of Claudia and Alan Heller at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 30.

The museum has received recent upgrades to the “floor, lighting, painting and displays,” and the longstanding local history hub is ready to unveil its new Route 66 exhibit.

Refreshments will be provided at the dedication ceremony co-sponsored by the city of Duarte and the Duarte Historical Society & Museum.

For more information or to RSVP, contact Duarte Historical Society Museum President Liz Reilly at 626-253-6600 or 4lizreilly@gmail.com.

Since 1952, the Duarte Historical Society & Museum has worked to collect and preserve the history of the city and the San Gabriel Valley area’s heritage, according to a city statement.

“Through various presentations, exhibitions, educational programs, and publications, the Society plays a vital role in facilitating historical research and keeping the community’s rich history alive,” officials said.

The museum is in Encanto Park and opens its doors Wednesday 1-3 p.m. and Saturday 1-4 p.m.
