An elderly woman was found stabbed to death inside her South Pasadena home late Tuesday night, prompting an investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Her adult grandchildren discovered her lifeless body around 8:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Brent Avenue while conducting a welfare check.

“They went in the location where they found a female, white adult suffering from stab wounds to her upper torso. The Fire Department responded and she was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Lt. Michael Modica of the LASD’s Homicide Bureau.

The woman, who was in her 70s, had lived at the property for many years. Her identity has not been disclosed. The crime scene remained taped off on Wednesday morning as authorities continued their investigation.

Details regarding the motive or timing of the stabbing have not been released, and no suspect descriptions have been provided. The property includes a backhouse, but it is unclear if it played any role in the incident.

Neighbors expressed shock, noting the victim’s long tenure in the neighborhood.

Law enforcement is urging anyone with information to contact the LASD’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be submitted to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or through their website, lacrimestoppers.org.
