A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was unveiled Thursday honoring actress and radio personality Angélica Vale, with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti among the scheduled speakers.

Actor Jaime Camil and Vale’s mother, Angelica Maria, were also among those joining Vale in speaking at the ceremony, which also featured video tributes and was held one day before Vale’s 47th birthday.

Vale and Camil starred in the 2006-07 Televisa telenovela “La Fea Más Bella,” whose three-hour finale drew the largest audience for a telenovela finale in Mexican television history, despite airing opposite the Oscars. Vale received a TVyNovelas Award best actress prize for her portrayal of an intelligent and charming but very ugly young woman who becomes the assistant to the president of one of Mexico’s most prestigious media enterprises (Camil).

“La Fea Más Bella” was based on the Colombian telenovela, “Betty La Fea,” which was also the inspiration of the 2006-10 ABC series, “Ugly Betty,” which Vale guest-starred on.

Vale is a member of Garcetti’s community outreach team.

Garcetti hailed Vale as “an angel in the city of Angels.”

“We are so proud of this incredible woman,” he said. “She is not only an incredibly talented star — she’s brought joy to people on stage, on screen — but it’s also when nobody is around that she’s a joy to be with, when the cameras are off. A bright spirit. An amazing wife, mother and daughter.”

Vale is known as the “Latina Queen of Stage Comedy” and regarded as the Tina Fey and Carol Burnett of Spanish-language entertainment with an extensive career in film, television, music and radio, including hosting the five-hour “La Vale Show” mornings on Cali 93.9, KLLI-FM.

Vale has appeared in more than 300 television programs, including being the main host of HBO Max’s “Bake Off Mexico” and the head judge and character coach of the Univision talent competition series, “Tu Cara Me Suena.”

Vale has been in the casts of 20 feature films, including supplying the voice of Mama Imelda in the Spanish-language version of the 2017 Oscar-winning Disney-Pixar animated film, “Coco,” appeared in 30 stage productions, including the off-Broadway run of “The Vagina Monologues,” and recorded 25 albums.

The star at 7060 Hollywood Blvd., between La Brea and Sycamore avenues and near The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel, is near the star honoring Maria, an actress and singer who earned the title of “Mexico’s Sweetheart” after beginning her recording career when she was 17 years old.

The star is the 2,739th since the completion of the Walk of Fame in 1961 with the first 1,558 stars.
