The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Sunday for the 18th consecutive day since rising to a record, decreasing 1.7 cents to $5.814.
The average price has dropped 68 cents over the past 18 days, including 4.1 cents Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.
The average price is at its lowest since Sept. 25 and 31.3 cents less than one week ago. However, it is 19.9 cents more than one month ago and $1.267 higher than one year ago — mainly due to a 33-day streak of increases totaling $1.248 that ended Oct. 6.
The Orange County average price also dropped for the 18th consecutive day since rising to a record, decreasing 1.6 cents to $5.682, its lowest amount since Sept. 24.
The Orange County average price has dropped 77.7 cents over the past 18 days, including 5.5 cents Saturday, following a run of 15 increases in 16 days totaling $1.063 that ended Oct. 6.
The Orange County average price is 32.4 cents less than one week ago, but 7.8 cents more than one month ago and $1.169 higher than one year ago.
“There are already several Southern California stations charging $5 a gallon or less for regular unleaded, and we expect that number to grow in coming days,” Marie Montgomery, a public relations specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California, told City News Service.
The national average price dropped for the 11th time in 12 days, decreasing eight-tenths of a cent to $3.795, its lowest amount since Sept. 29. It has dropped 12.8 cents over the past 12 days, including 1.7 cents Saturday.
The national average price is 9.3 cents less than one week ago, but 10.6 cents more than one month ago and 41.3 cents higher than one year ago. It is $1.221 less than the record of $5.016 set June 14.
