In its first full season since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pasadena Chorale will perform four choral concerts and hold two benefit events at various venues in the Pasadena area.
“We have been working hard on putting together a full season of programming for the Chorale’s 22/23 Season,” said Jeffrey Bernstein, the Chorale’s founding artistic and executive director. “We’ll be performing in great acoustic spaces, singing gems of the repertoire by Josquin, Vaughan Williams and Brahms, and exploring new music by diverse and young composers.”
The new season begins Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. with “Fall Follies”, a cabaret-style fundraiser at the Tea Rose Garden in Pasadena. The theme of this year’s Follies is “A Night of Mystery, Magic and Romance.” Guests are encouraged to wear a costume or mask that evokes the theme of the night. Tickets are $100 and include a catered menu featuring wine, light fare, salad and dessert. Proceeds from the fundraiser help the Chorale continue to offer concert and educational programming at no cost to the community.
The season will feature the following concerts:
– “The Light of Hope Returning” on Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. will be a folk oratorio for the winter solstice featuring traditional, and new winter carols by Shawn Kirchner.
– “Josquin!” on March 4, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. and March 5, 2023 at 5 p.m. will celebrate Josquin Desprez’s greatest hit of 1515, “Pange Lingua Mass.” The March 5 performance is a special benefit event for the Pasadena Chorale.
– “Brahms and Beyond” on May 6, 20223 at 7:30 p.m. will explore choral music composed and inspired by Johannes Brahms.
– “Listening to the Future” on June 17, 2023 at 7 p.m.will feature new music composed by Pasadena area high school students.
Unlike other performance groups, Pasadena Chorale offers all of its concerts at no cost to its patrons with its innovative “Listen First, Then Give” ticketing. However, donations are strongly encouraged and can be made at PasadenaChorale.org. The Pasadena Chorale is requiring all personnel and audience members to be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.
