Authorities Thursday released security video of a vehicle believed involved in the hit-and-run death of a man in the Mid-City area, and detectives urged anyone with information on the case to call police.

Rafael Cabrera, 41, of Los Angeles was struck by one or more vehicles about 10:10 p.m. Aug. 15 in the 5000 block of Venice Boulevard and died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the Los Angeles Police Department.

Cabrera was not in a crosswalk when he was hit by a dark-colored SUV that was eastbound on Venice, according to the LAPD.

“The vehicle continued eastbound (on) Venice Boulevard and failed to stop,” according to an LAPD statement. “A second dark-colored sports-utility vehicle may have also been involved, but it has not been determined at this time.”

No description was available of either motorist. A standing reward of up to $50,000 has been offered by the city of Los Angeles for help in solving fatal hit-and-run crimes.

Anyone with information about the case was urged to call the LAPD West Traffic Division at 213-473-0234, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Tipsters may also use the website www.lacrimestoppers.org.
