The Dodgers will seek to extend their nine-game home winning streak when they face the Milwaukee Brewers Monday evening to begin a three-game series.
The Dodgers and Brewers split a four-game series in Milwaukee last week, accounting for two of the Dodgers’ three losses in their 19 games in August.
Julio Urías (13-6) will pitch for the Dodgers, facing fellow left-hander Eric Lauer (8-5).
Urías pitched five shutout innings and was credited with the victory in a 4-0 win over the Brewers last Monday. Urías allowed four hits, striking out six and walking two. No runners advanced past second base.
Urías is 5-1 with a 2.01 ERA and 50 strikeouts in seven career starts against Milwaukee.
Lauer on Wednesday suffered his first career loss to the Dodgers following six victories, allowing two runs and four hits, including home runs by Austin Barnes and Max Muncy, striking out seven and walking three in the 2-1 game. Tony Gonsolin and relievers Caleb Ferguson and Craig Kimbrel limited the Brewers to four hits.
The Dodgers are 15-8 in Urías’ 23 starts. Milwaukee is 13-9 in Lauer’s 22 starts.
The Dodgers (84-36) are 39-8 since June 29 and have a 6 1/2-game lead over the New York Mets (79-44) in the race for MLB’s best record and home-field advantage throughout the postseason. They have scored a major league-high 642 runs and allowed a major league-low 378.
Milwaukee (64-56) is in second in the National League Central, trailing St. Louis (69-51) by five games. The Brewers led the division by four games July 31, then lost six of their next seven. Milwaukee trails Philadelphia by 1 1/2 games in the race for the National League’s third and final wild-card playoff berth.
The game is Law Enforcement Appreciation Night. Slain El Monte Police Department Sgt. Michael Paredes and Officer Joseph Santana will be recognized during pregame ceremonies. Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore will throw the ceremonial first pitch.
The game is set to begin at 7:10 p.m. and will be televised by SportsNet LA.
The Dodgers completed a three-game series sweep of the Miami Marlins with a 10-3 victory Sunday. All-Star Sandy Alcantara allowed six runs and 10 hits, both season highs, in 3 2/3 innings, his shortest start of the season.
Alcantara is 0-3 lifetime against the Dodgers with a 14.79 ERA in 14 innings in four starts.
Dodger rookie right-hander Ryan Pepiot (2-0) marked his 25th birthday by pitching six innings and striking out seven, both career highs, in his eighth start.
Cody Bellinger had three hits and drove in three runs and Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy both homered for the Dodgers.
The Dodgers announced Monday they optioned Pepiot to their Triple-A Oklahoma City affiliate to make room on the roster for right-handed reliever Brusdar Graterol, who had been on the injured list since July 11 due to right shoulder inflammation.
