An acid leak at a Jurupa Valley school Friday injured a custodian and prompted a lockdown at the campus, but no students were exposed.

The pool acid leak was reported shortly before 10 a.m. at Jurupa Valley High School, near the intersection of Bellegrave and Etiwanda avenues, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that several engine crews were sent to the location and confirmed a chemical spill, which campus officials said was isolated at the pool pump.

Teachers, staff and students were asked to shelter in place while fire crews investigated.

A custodian, whose identity was not disclosed, suffered non-life-threatening exposure injuries and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment, according to reports from the scene.

It was unclear whether the substance was chlorine-based product or something else.

A hazardous materials crew mopped up the chemicals, and the campus lockdown was lifted about an hour later.

The cause of the acid spill was under investigation.
