A woman pleaded not guilty Friday to charges stemming from an alleged hate crime attack on a transgender woman in Inglewood.

Ana Luz Vazquez, 38, is charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated mayhem and one misdemeanor count of violation of civil rights, along with a hate crime allegation, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Vazquez allegedly punched the transgender woman and attacked her with a box cutter as the victim walked her dog March 10 in the 600 block of Hargrave Street, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Vazquez was arrested Wednesday by Inglewood police and has remained behind bars since then, jail records show.

She is due back in an Inglewood courtroom Aug. 19 for a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to allow the case against her to proceed to trial.
