An altercation in Lancaster Tuesday left a 54-year-old man shot to death and a 76-year-old man with blunt force wounds to his body.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department units were called at about 12:20 P.M. to a residence in the 1100 block of West Avenue J-8 on reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound and found one man down with a gunshot to his torso and the other man wounded at the scene, according to the department’s Michael Chen.
Paramedics were called and pronounced the man with the gunshot wound dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The other man was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The LASD determined through a preliminary investigation that the men “were involved in an altercation” that escalated and resulted in the injuries, but no further details were immediately available.
Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to contact the LASD Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
