CHP Officer Wes Haver confirmed the person taken into custody Tuesday morning in Van Nuys after a 13-hour search is a suspect in last night’s shooting of an officer during a traffic stop.
The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Pejhmaun Khosroadbadi, who was found after an LAPD bloodhound sniffed him out in a homeless encampment on Haskell Avenue. The shooting occurred after an altercation between Khosroadbadi and the officer broke out during a routine traffic stop in Studio City. Khosroadbadi brandished a gun and shot the officer several times, initially leaving him in critical condition.
Khosroadbadi fled the scene last night before other officers were able to arrive. According to reports from the scene, police dogs tracked the suspect’s scent from a Haskell Avenue apartment building where a standoff occurred overnight to a homeless encampment on Gloria Avenue. He was found with an injury presumably from the shootout with the CHP officer who performed the initial traffic stop.
The suspect was found in a tent at the encampment. Prior to his capture, SWAT officers tracked Khosroadbadi to the Haskell Avenue apartment building only to not find him there after several hours.
According to CHP during a press conference late Tuesday morning, the 27-year-old officer, who has only been on the force for a year, is currently at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center being treated for his wounds. He is currently in stable condition.
As for Khosroadbadi, it is expected that he will be charged with the attempted murder of a police officer, ABC7 reports.
