People can surrender their firearms with no questions asked and in return receive gift cards of up to $300 Saturday during a gun buyback event in Lynwood conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The event will begin run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or when the gift cards run out, at the L.A. Metro Park and Ride lot at 11508 Long Beach Blvd.
People can receive $50 gift cards for non-functioning firearms; $150 for functioning pistols, rifles and shotguns; $200 for functioning ghost guns; and $300 for functioning assault weapons.
Participants must bring the firearms in the trunk of their vehicle. Deputies will provide instructions. Pedestrian walk-ups are not allowed, and firearms are prohibited on Metro trains.
The weapons will be destroyed after they are turned over to the sheriff’s department.
A gun buyback program was conducted at five locations across Los Angeles in March that received 17 assault weapons and 250 other firearms, including 15 ghost guns.
