On April 28 at 8 a.m., the Arcadia Police Department kicked off its first in-person “Coffee-with-a-Cop” event since the onset of COVID-19 at the “Bowlero” in the Westfield Santa Anita mall.

Prior to the pandemic, Coffee with a Cop was held once every three months. Some of those events had a “topic of the day,” which included pedestrian safety and tips on guarding against residential burglaries.

At the event, the Arcadia PD invites the community to meet with police officers to enjoy coffee and conversation. Arcadia Police Chief Roy Nakamura, five lieutenants, several sergeants and some volunteer police were all on hand to answer questions and listen to concerns from the residents.

Greetings and pleasantries were exchanged over coffee and pastry. Connections were made and rapport established while no formal speeches were delivered. City Councilmembers Verlato, Danielson and Tay both attended the event.

Arcadia City Council candidate, Jason Lee, also attended the event. Lee’s campaign has been vocal regarding his support for strengthening the police force in Arcadia. He treated the event as a chance to speak with the department, along with local residents, to discuss ways to enhance public safety.
