Authorities Monday announced a reward of up to $50,000 for help in solving the murder of a Sylmar man who was gunned down nearly six months ago.

Alexander Aguirre, 40, was shot about 10 p.m. on Nov. 12, 2021, in the 13200 block of Maclay Street, and he died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect approached Aguirre in the rear parking lot and shot him,” police said in a statement. “The motive for the shooting has not been established.”

No arrests have been reported, and no suspect description has been released.

“He was the heartbeat of our family,” Aguirre’s brother David Aguirre, said at a news conference Monday when the reward was announced by detectives.

“We were there recently, just visiting the site of where he was killed, and then some lady comes out, unexpectedly, and said, `Oh, you guys know the gentleman — he was such a sweet gentleman; every time I would come out, he would see me sweeping, he would come and help me do my chores …”‘ David Aguirre said.

“He was that person,” he added. “He would just lend out his hand, wherever he could.”

The Los Angeles City Council offered the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects responsible. Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD Valley Bureau homicide detectives at 818-374-1933 or 877-LAPD-247. Tips also can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
