Caltrans announced Tuesday the completion of an $11 million seismic-upgrade and restoration project on five bridges on three Los Angeles County freeways.
The bridges included in the project were the Zachary Padilla Avenue overcrossing and the Vernon Avenue overcrossing on the Foothill (210) Freeway, the Getty Center Drive undercrossing on the San Diego (405) Freeway, and the Lower Azusa Road and the Arrow Highway overcrossings on the San Gabriel (605) Freeway.
Work began in February 2021 and was completed earlier this month, with funding provided by SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, according to Caltrans.
“Preserving the structural integrity of bridges is one of the primary goals of SB 1 funding,” Caltrans District 7 Director Tony Tavares said in a statement. “This project included three major corridors in Southern California. It ensures the safety of local commuters and supports the efficient and timely movement of goods.”
The work included 141,916 square feet of bridge rehabilitation, the equivalent square footage of almost three football fields, Caltrans officials said.
