A man was fatally shot near a transitional housing facility Friday in Venice.

Officers from the Pacific Station of the Los Angeles Police Department responded at approximately 1:10 a.m. to calls of shots fired at a location on Main Street south of Sunset Avenue where they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds, said LAPD Officer Norma Eiseman.

It was not known if the victim was homeless.

Eiseman said LAPD is classifying the shooting as a homicide.
