Old Town Monrovia report: ‘Thyme’ for some ‘iris-istible’ community events!

It’s official! Spring has sprung and it is my favorite time of year. The weather is beautiful. Can you blame people for flocking to California? There is a theory that Iceland and Greenland are misnomers, used to deter settlors. It’s a little late to try that here, but it sure sounds appealing. I can’t complain, though. My commute is a few blocks to work, the market and the schools. Everything I need is right here in this beautiful Old Town bubble.

There are so many spring activities coming in April! On Sunday, April 3, from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m., the Monrovia Historical Museum will host a “Treasures from the Collection” sale. After a two-year hiatus, the museum is clearing its shelves of some wonderful vintage and less-than-vintage items. All sales will benefit the museum’s exhibit development, educational outreach and historical research. All items are sold as is and final, and you must have a way to transport your purchase(s). I’m not a craftsman, but I bet they are going to nail this!

On Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. through 1 p.m., some bunny special will be at Library Park!  Whether you call them the Easter Bunny, Spring Bunny, Peter Rabbit or Eostre, this adorable bunny will be there for all your photo op needs. In addition to the photo opportunities, there will be arts and crafts, lawn games and story time. It will be quite an “eggciting” day for the entire family!

On Saturday, April 16, from 10 a.m. through 1 p.m., join us at the Recreation Park for the 2022 Spring Egg hunt. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The hunt is broken down by age groups, so the littles don’t get trampled by the bigs. There will be face painting, food trucks, the Monrovia Reads van, toddler activities, arts and crafts, photos, family activities and music. Don’t miss this fun family day. It will be to “dye” for!

April 23 brings us a local favorite: the Monrovia Wine Walk. You asked and the city said yes to the extended hours of 5:30 p.m. through 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Community Center and Charlie’s House. You can also purchase tickets at EventBrite. Don’t delay! This event sold out in October. If you spend $100 in Old Town in one shopping/dining experience, you can buy two pre-sale tickets for $35 each, saving $10. This is a fun way to see stores and businesses you haven’t had a chance to experience. Sip, shop and support, all while getting in those steps!   It will be a fun night for all grown-ups and a fantastic opportunity to stop and smell the “rosé.”

Please join us for the 12th Annual MAP Neighborhood Conference on April 20, from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church on Shamrock. It will be the first in-person conference since the pandemic, so come one, come all! There will be free breakfast snacks, health screenings, workshops, Samson the Bear activities (maybe a self “pawtrait”), free lunch and an information fair from booth vendors. MAP is a wonderful organization that provides resources, tools, education and information to the community. It is a great way to get involved locally and give back. Plus, we just would not be able to “bear” it if you didn’t join us.

Well, this has been a lot of “pun,” but I must run. What a “re-leaf,” am I right?
