A GoFundMe fundraiser to help the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena (BGCP) has raised over $7,000 of its $10,000 goal. When the $10,000 goal is reached, a $5,000 donation from Pasadena-based OpenX will be unlocked.

“Ranging from learning loss to increased mental health issues to lack of social stimulation, pandemic recovery has become the urgent, dedicated focus of the Club,” says Lisa Cavelier, BGCP’s CEO. OpenX’s CEO, John Gentry explained why supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena matters, “OpenX believes in the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena and the work they do in the community. Providing youth and kids programs that continue to help them during this pandemic and beyond is important not just for those participating in club programming but for the broader Pasadena community. This is why OpenX has chosen to proudly support the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena’s GoFundMe Campaign.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena shared what they are doing to meet the need of community youth and families:

  • Offer every Club member academic support, including tutoring weekly for kids in need. Over 30 tutors have provided thousands of minutes tutoring Club members since the pandemic began.
  • Pair every middle school and teen member with a mentor, who checks in with them daily and provides critical emotional and mental health support.
  • Offer a safe, hands-on space for kids to discover, play, and explore, like by climbing the rock wall at the Mackenzie-Scott Clubhouse and making fun and messy art.

Funds raised during the “Help Kids Thrive During the Pandemic” GoFundMe campaign will be used for high-impact academic programs, including tutoring, and for emotional and mental health support for all members.

Since 1937, the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena has enriched the lives of young people in throughout the Pasadena community, enabling them to reach their full potential as productive, caring, healthy, and responsible citizens. They serve more than 2,000 youth, ages 5 – 18, annually.
