The fire was reported at about 2:45 p.m. at the two-story apartment building at 5130 N. Yarmouth Ave., near the Ventura (101) Freeway, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A total of 62 firefighters managed to keep the flames confined to a single unit, and knockdown was officially called just after 3:05 p.m.

A 45-year-old man, 24-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman were taken to a hospital for possible smoke inhalation and were reported to be in fair condition. An LAFD firefighter sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was also taken to a hospital in fair condition.
