This past week, several California homes has been broken into by Hank the Tank, a large bear looking for things to eat. UCLA won a grant that will boost diversity in the field of nuclear physics.
Speaking of bears, or at least Bruins, The UCLA Department of Physics and Astronomy has received federal government funding for a pilot program designed to help low-income, first-generation and historically underrepresented undergraduate students pursue careers in nuclear physics, it was announced Friday.
The $500,000 grant from the nuclear physics program in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science will support training, mentorship and hands-on research experiences for students, including internships at national laboratories and the opportunity to work on research related to the DOE’s cutting-edge Electron-Ion Collider, said associate professor of physics Zhongbo Kang, who is heading the program at UCLA.
This year’s LA Pride Parade will be held Hollywood.
The LA Pride Parade, canceled for the past two years, is returning and taking a new route in the community where the movement started.
The LA Pride Parade will be June 12 and centered in Hollywood, a shift from its traditional route in West Hollywood, it was announced Tuesday.
The LA Pride Parade, produced by Christopher Street West, has been described as the second largest pride parade in the nation. It was canceled in 2020, in what would have been its 50th anniversary, because of COVID-19 precautions. The parade was canceled again in 2021 because of COVID-19 concerns.
The Feminist Street Initiative will be renaming streets in LA after important women.
Biddy Mason and Dolores Huerta were trailblazers of their times. They are part of the Women’s March Foundation’s Feminist Street Initiative to rename streets across the nation after women who paved the way for equality and recognition throughout history.
The Feminist Street Initiative aims to rename streets across the country after historic women. It comes after the fifth anniversary of the nationwide Women’s March, and in the days before the start of Women’s History Month in March. The Women’s March Foundation is campaigning for streets to be named after Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Gloria Steinem and Maya Angelou, among others.
