One suspect was killed and an Azusa police officer was injured in a shootout in the unincorporated Vincent area near Azusa Wednesday.

Azusa Police Department officers responded to the area of South Jackson Avenue and West Gladstone Street about 4:05 p.m. to investigate reports of a stolen vehicle when two suspects opened fire, ABC7 reported.

One of the officers was hit by at least one bullet and returned fire, fatally striking one of the suspects.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, but was not immediately identified.

The police officer was taken by paramedics to a hospital in unknown condition. The second suspect was taken into custody, though it was not immediately known if that person was injured in the shooting.
