At least two homes were destroyed in a brush fire that blackened about four acres in the Whittier area Thursday.

The fire was first reported about 2:30 p.m. in about two acres of brush in the area of Cinco View Drive and East Banyon Rim Drive, near Sycamore Park, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Fixed-wing aircraft and more than 200 firefighters were requested to battle the flames, which quickly engulfed one home and caused extensive damage to another next door.

The fire department announced just before 4:30 p.m. that forward progress of the fire was stopped at about four acres and was 20% contained. No injuries were immediately reported.
